Pikachu Sugar Cookies Tutorial: STEP by STEP
Let’s get to the good stuff…how to make these adorable Pikachu cookies. These particular cookies are fun because they use a bunny shaped cookie cutter (a PEEP bunny shaped cookie cutter to be exact.) You can honestly use almost any bunny shaped cookie cutter though. These are fairly easy to find and with the right details…that bunny looks like Pikachu!
Materials:
- Bunny Cookie Cutter
- White Fondant (or Yellow Fondant, Black fondant, Red Fondant)
- Gel Food Coloring (if using White Fondant)
- Fondant Punches
- Food Safe Marker
- White Sugar Pearls
- Sugar Cookie Recipe: I used my no-fail, easy to use Sugar Cookie Recipe.
Step 1:
First off, you need to prep your sugar cookie dough. I recommend my basic cut out sugar recipe, but you can use whatever recipe you wish, as long as they don’t spread a lot when baking. This recipe is great for decorating. It is easy and tasty!
You wll want to start by liberally flouring the surface and the rolling pin. Then roll out dough until it about ¼ inch thick. Using the bunny cookie cutter, cut the cookies and place on parchment covered cookie sheets. Bake per recipe.
Allow cookies to completely cool prior to decorating. I like to bake the cookies the day before I decorate.
Step 2:
Next, prep your fondant. If you chose to use white fondant, you will need to color the fondant with the gel food coloring.
Coloring fondant is easy…start with white and add drops of gel food coloring, kneading as you go until fondant is the desired color. Make sure to mix together until it is fully mixed and no longer has a “tie-dyed” look to it.
If you decide to use pre-colored fondant, you don’t need to mix any food coloring. Honestly, either of these methods work, the white fondant option is a little more time consuming, but also more budget friendly.
Step 3:
Roll out the yellow fondant to 1/4″ thick. Use the bunny cookie cutter to cut out one bunny shape per cookie. Set aside to harden.
Roll out the black fondant to 1/4″ thick. Use the heart punch that is the same size as the bunny ear tip and a circle punch to punch out two black hearts and two black eyes per cookie. Set aside to harden. Gently press a white sugar pearl into each black circle prior to hardening for the pupils.
Roll out the red fondant to 1/4″ thick. Use the same circle punch to punch out two cheeks per cookie. Set aside to harden.
Step 4:
Once the fondant is hardened, attach the pieces to the yellow bunny body. If the fondant is still slightly tacky on the bottom, you can attach directly. If it is fully hardened, you can attach with a drop of water as glue.
Step 5:
Finally, using the black edible marker, draw two curved lines for the mouth and a dot for the nose. All done and party ready!
See…I told you they were SOOOOO simple!
