How to use Narwhal Desserts

Narwhal desserts are charming, photogenic, and incredibly versatile. They can anchor your dessert table, serve as party favors, or even become a creative activity for kids. A classic use is creating a dessert display filled with cupcakes and cookies decorated in pastel tones, shimmering frosting, and adorable narwhal faces. These treats instantly brighten your table and help define the theme.

Narwhal cookies make perfect take-home favors when packaged individually in clear bags or pastel boxes. Add a ribbon and a cute message tag for an adorable finishing touch. Cupcakes can double as centerpiece décor when placed on tiered stands, surrounded by edible pearls or confetti sprinkles to mimic bubbles floating through the sea.

You can also turn narwhal desserts into an activity. Offer plain cookies or cupcakes alongside edible decorations—fondant horns, candy eyes, pastel sprinkles, and frosting. Kids love decorating their own narwhal treats, and it becomes a memorable party moment they will be excited to bring home.

Whether displayed, gifted, or crafted during the celebration, narwhal desserts bring charm, color, and joy to your event.

There are many ways to incorporate narwhal cookies and cupcakes into your party.  The easiest and most seamless way is by focusing your party around the fun little sea creature.

Ideas for a Narwhal party

A narwhal party is a whimsical blend of ocean magic and pastel fantasy. Begin with a soft color palette—lavender, icy blue, blush pink, mint, and pale turquoise create a dreamy underwater world. Use iridescent accents, pearl textures, and glittery details to add a sparkly finish that feels both playful and elegant.

Decorations can include wave backdrops, bubble clusters, pastel balloon garlands, shimmering tulle, and watercolor sea creature cutouts. Little details like starfish, shells, pearls, and mini narwhal figures help fill your space with character. Lighting can also enhance your theme—soft fairy lights or pastel lanterns can mimic underwater shimmer.

Activities might include narwhal coloring pages, ocean-theme crafts, bubble play, or simple sensory bins filled with sand or water beads. For older children, a scavenger hunt searching for hidden narwhal treasures is a fun addition.

The theme’s charm lies in its gentle, imaginative tone. A narwhal party feels magical without being overwhelming, making it perfect for young children and an adorable choice for birthdays full of sparkling personality.

Narwhal Cookie Tutorial: STEP by STEP

Firstly, we have these super simple Narwhal Cookies.  Ready to get baking?

Materials:

Step 1:

Prepare sugar cookie dough.  I use my basic cut out sugar recipe.  You can use whatever recipe you desire, as long as they don’t spread too much when baking.

You can also cheat and buy round sugar cookies from the store. The cookies will be entirely covered with fondant, so as long as you have a round cookie cutter to match the size of your cookie, don’t feel bad about saving some time if you need to!

Flour the surface and flour the  rolling pin…liberally.  Roll out dough until it about ¼ inch thick. Using the round cookie cutter, cut the cookies and place on parchment covered cookie sheets.  Bake per recipe.  Allow cookies to cool before decorating.

Step 2:

While the cookies are cooling, it’s time to work with that fondant.  You will need three colors of fondant, a large amount of light teal/blue and a lesser amount of gray and darker teal/blue.  Add food coloring to your fondant until you reach the desired color.

Roll out the light teal fondant to about 1/4 inch thick.  Cut into circles the size of your cookies. One circle per cookie. Set aside and allow to harden.

Next, roll out the dark teal fondant like you did with the light.  Punch with the larger size heart punch. Two per cookie.  Set aside and allow to harden.

Step 3:

To make the narwhal horn, roll out the gray fondant (like you are making a play dough snake.  Once the “snake” is at least two inches long and not too thick, pinch the middle in half and twist the two ends around one another.

Once you have about 1-1.5 inches off wrapped horn, cut the bottom off and pinch it together to make it flat.  Set aside and allow to harden.

Step 4:

Once the fondant is hard, you are ready to decorate.  Take a sugar cookie, put a thin layer of frosting onto the cookie.

Place a heart fondant piece on the bottom of the left side of the cookie, tip inward on the frosting so that is overhangs the cookie.

Place a round circle on top of the cookie. Add another heart for a flipper (glue withe a very small amount of frosting.  Use a small dab of frosting to adhere the horn to the top.

Using the food marker, draw a smile shape and add eyelashes marks.

Easy peasy and ready to enjoy!

Narwhal Cupcake Tutorial: STEP by STEP

Ready for some amazing Narwhal cupcakes?

Materials:

Step 1:

Bake cupcakes using your favorite recipe.  It doesn’t matter what flavor cupcakes your make.  You can also buy cupcakes from any bakery or grocery store and either ask for unfrosted or wipe off the frosting with a paper towel prior to decorating.

Step 2:

Before frosting the cupcakes, you should make the narwhal horn and allow it to harden. To make the narwhal horn, roll out the gray fondant (like you are making a play dough snake.

Once the “snake” is at least two inches long and not too thick, pinch the middle in half and twist the two ends around one another.

Once you have about 1.5-2 inches off wrapped horn, cut the bottom off and pinch it together to make it flat.  Set aside and allow to harden.

Step 3:

Pipe frosting onto cupcakes.  You do not need anything fancy to do this.  A simple tip and pastry bag (or even a gallon sized ziplock bag with a corner cut out) can do the trick.

Place the sanding sugar in a bowl and gently roll the iced cupcake in the sugar until the frosting is all covered.

Step 4:

Place the narwhal horn into the frosting.  Using the black gel, carefully draw a smile shape and add eyelash lines.

Super simple and super fun!  Enjoy your little narwhals!

Narwhal Tableware

The easiest way serve all the glorious party treats you make and buy is with some themed party ware. This is budget friendly and keeps the design flowing through every part of your party. Definitely a must buy!!!

When you’re planning a narwhal celebration filled with magical pastel details, themed party ware becomes an essential styling element. Matching plates, cups, napkins, and serving pieces give your dessert table a cohesive look, elevating even the simplest treats. Narwhal cookies and cupcakes look more intentional when displayed on soft pastel plates or coordinated stands. A themed tablecloth instantly sets the tone, helping your treats blend seamlessly with the rest of your décor.

Party ware also minimizes stress during setup and cleanup. Disposable pieces make hosting easier, allowing you to focus on enjoying your celebration instead of worrying about dishes. Because themed party ware often comes in coordinated sets, it reduces the guesswork and simplifies your design decisions. You get a pretty, cohesive setup without needing to invest in expensive props or complicated backdrops.

A narwhal party is all about gentle colors and magical charm. Matching tableware supports that ambiance and reinforces your theme with little effort. When your plates and napkins echo your cupcakes’ frosting colors or your cookies’ shimmering accents, your dessert table becomes a unified, picture-perfect focal point. Party ware is a small investment with big impact, helping your narwhal celebration feel polished, magical, and beautifully cohesive.
