Blippi Cookie Tutorial: STEP by STEP
Let’s take a look at how to make these fun and simple Blippi inspired sugar cookies.
Materials:
- Circle Cookie Cutter
- Bowtie Cookie Cutter (You can use any bow/bowtie cookie cutter. I used the mini bow cookie cutter from this set.)
- White Fondant (or Orange Fondant and Light Blue Fondant)
- Gel Food Coloring (if using White Fondant)
- Fondant Punch Set
- White Sugar Pearls
- Sugar Cookie Recipe: I used my no-fail, easy to use Sugar Cookie Recipe.
- Parchment Paper
Step 1:
You will want to begin by prepping your cookie dough. You will want a sugar cookie recipe that will bake without spreading too much. I recommend my basic cut out sugar recipe. It is great for keeping it’s shape and tastes delicious.
First, liberally flour your cutting surface a rolling pin. This helps the cookie not spread and not stick to the surface so the shape doesn’t get messed up when you transfer them to the baking sheets.
Roll out dough until it about ¼ inch thick. Using the circle shaped cookie cutter and bow shaped cookie cutter, cut the cookies and place on parchment covered cookie sheets. Bake according to your recipe.
Allow cookies to completely cool prior to decorating. I like to bake the cookies the day before and let them cool all night in a sealed container.
Step 2:
Once you are ready to decorate, you will need to prep your fondant. If you opt to use white fondant, you will want to color the fondant with the gel food coloring.
To color fondant, start with white and add drops of gel food coloring, kneading as you go until fondant is the desired color. Mix together until it is fully mixed and no longer has a “tie-dyed” look to it. You will need orange fondant and light blue fondant.
If you are using pre-colored fondant, you don’t need to mix any food coloring. Either method works, the white fondant option is a little more time consuming, but also more budget friendly.
Step 3:
Start with the light blue fondant. Roll the light blue fondant out until it is smooth and 1/4 inch thick. Using the same circle cookie cutter you used for the cookies, cut one light blue circle for each shirt cookie. Set aside to start drying.
Before the light blue shirts dry, you will want to press in 3 white sugar pearls so they dry into the fondant and stay put. Start 1/3 of the way down the center of the cookie and place three pearls equal distance apart in a straight line for the shirt buttons.
Step 4:
Next move on the the orange fondant. Roll it out to 1/4 inch thick. You will be cutting a few different shapes out of the orange. First using the small heart punch, you will need two hearts per circle cookie. Press the tips of the hearts together, making a tiny bowtie and set aside to dry.
Cut small strips of orange. Lay them across the light blue circles parallel to the buttons. Trim the orange strips and allow to dry. Add the tiny bowtie and allow the toppers to dry together.
Step 5:
Using the bowtie cookie cutter, cut one bowtie per bow shaped cookie. Also punch one oval shape per bowtie. Place the oval on the center of the bowtie. Set aside to begin drying.
Before the fondant is fully hard, use a toothpick or fork prong to press a line from the oval to the middle of the bow sides.
Step 6:
Once the fondant is fully dry, you can place it on the cookie. I recommend using a little icing or thin layer of frosting to secure the fondant to the cookie.
Easy peasy and all ready to enjoy!
