Golden Girls Cookies Tutorial: STEP by STEP

Alright…let’s get to the good stuff.  Let’s talk about how to make and decorate these cookies.

Materials:

Step 1:

For the sugar cookie base, you can use any recipe.  I highly recommend my basic cut out sugar recipe. It is great for keeping it’s shape and tastes delicious.  Once you settle on a recipe, you can start by prepping the dough.

You will want to use a liberal amount of flour on the surface you are cutting and even a little extra in the dough itself.

Roll out dough until it about ¼ inch thick. Using the circle cookie cutter, cut the cookies and place on parchment covered cookie sheets.  Bake according to the recipe.

Allow cookies to completely cool prior to decorating.  I like to bake the cookies the day before so they are nice a cool for decorating.

Step 2:

Start with the peach fondant.  Roll it out to 1/8 inch thick.  Using the same circle shaped cookie cutter you used for the cookies, cut out one face per cookie. Use the knife to shave the circle into a “chin shape” that resembles the face you are making.  Set aside to start drying out an hardening.

 Step 3:

For Blanche: You want the face to be a little more narrow and “pointy”.  Roll out the brown fondant.  Cut two circles and cut to shape to make the outer hair and then the bangs.  Set aside to dry.

Using the edible markers, draw the facial features as shown onto the peach fondant.  Color the eyes green and the lips red.

For Dorothy: You want the face to have a rectangular shape with a pointy chin..  Roll out the gray fondant.  Cut two circles and cut to shape to make the outer hair and then the bangs.  Set aside to dry.

Using the edible markers, draw the facial features as shown onto the peach fondant.  Color the eyes broen and the lips pink.

For Sophia: You want the face to be little and boxy.  Roll out the gray fondant.  Cut two circles and cut to shape to make the outer hair and then the bangs.  Set aside to dry.

Using the edible markers, draw the facial features as shown onto the peach fondant.  Color the eyes blue and add glasses.

For Rose: You want the face to be very round.  Roll out the gray fondant.  Cut two circles and cut to shape to make the outer hair and then the bangs.  Set aside to dry.

Using the edible markers, draw the facial features as shown onto the peach fondant.  Color the eyes blue and the lips pink.

Step 4:

Place the pieces on the cookies with a little bit of frosting as glue.
