Narwhal Cookie Tutorial: STEP by STEP

Firstly, we have these super simple Narwhal Cookies.  Ready to get baking?

Materials:

Step 1:

Prepare sugar cookie dough.  I use my basic cut out sugar recipe.  You can use whatever recipe you desire, as long as they don’t spread too much when baking.

You can also cheat and buy round sugar cookies from the store. The cookies will be entirely covered with fondant, so as long as you have a round cookie cutter to match the size of your cookie, don’t feel bad about saving some time if you need to!

Flour the surface and flour the  rolling pin…liberally.  Roll out dough until it about ¼ inch thick. Using the round cookie cutter, cut the cookies and place on parchment covered cookie sheets.  Bake per recipe.  Allow cookies to cool before decorating.

Step 2:

While the cookies are cooling, it’s time to work with that fondant.  You will need three colors of fondant, a large amount of light teal/blue and a lesser amount of gray and darker teal/blue.  Add food coloring to your fondant until you reach the desired color.

Roll out the light teal fondant to about 1/4 inch thick.  Cut into circles the size of your cookies. One circle per cookie. Set aside and allow to harden.

Next, roll out the dark teal fondant like you did with the light.  Punch with the larger size heart punch. Two per cookie.  Set aside and allow to harden.

Step 3:

To make the narwhal horn, roll out the gray fondant (like you are making a play dough snake.  Once the “snake” is at least two inches long and not too thick, pinch the middle in half and twist the two ends around one another.

Once you have about 1-1.5 inches off wrapped horn, cut the bottom off and pinch it together to make it flat.  Set aside and allow to harden.

Step 4:

Once the fondant is hard, you are ready to decorate.  Take a sugar cookie, put a thin layer of frosting onto the cookie.

Place a heart fondant piece on the bottom of the left side of the cookie, tip inward on the frosting so that is overhangs the cookie.

Place a round circle on top of the cookie. Add another heart for a flipper (glue withe a very small amount of frosting.  Use a small dab of frosting to adhere the horn to the top.

Using the food marker, draw a smile shape and add eyelashes marks.

Easy peasy and ready to enjoy!

Narwhal Cupcake Tutorial: STEP by STEP

Ready for some amazing Narwhal cupcakes?

Materials:

Step 1:

Bake cupcakes using your favorite recipe.  It doesn’t matter what flavor cupcakes your make.  You can also buy cupcakes from any bakery or grocery store and either ask for unfrosted or wipe off the frosting with a paper towel prior to decorating.

Step 2:

Before frosting the cupcakes, you should make the narwhal horn and allow it to harden. To make the narwhal horn, roll out the gray fondant (like you are making a play dough snake.

Once the “snake” is at least two inches long and not too thick, pinch the middle in half and twist the two ends around one another.

Once you have about 1.5-2 inches off wrapped horn, cut the bottom off and pinch it together to make it flat.  Set aside and allow to harden.

Step 3:

Pipe frosting onto cupcakes.  You do not need anything fancy to do this.  A simple tip and pastry bag (or even a gallon sized ziplock bag with a corner cut out) can do the trick.

Place the sanding sugar in a bowl and gently roll the iced cupcake in the sugar until the frosting is all covered.

Step 4:

Place the narwhal horn into the frosting.  Using the black gel, carefully draw a smile shape and add eyelash lines.

Super simple and super fun!  Enjoy your little narwhals!
