Ideas for planning a Sugar Plum Fairy Party

If your little girl loves both fairies and sparkles AND has a winter birthday…this is the party theme for you! Love the idea of a winter fairy party? With sweet fairy ideas and lots of girly goodness, a Winter Fairy birthday is an amazing way to dress up a birthday!

I am super excited to share this party today… First of all, the weather has finally started to change and the cooler weather means “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”.

Second, this party was for my precious almost two year old’s first birthday. Wait, what?  Yes…I threw this party last December and yes, I am just now sharing it weeks before her  second birthday party.

Allow me to explain:   My little Emma was born days before Christmas…so on top of the “busiest time of year” in the Lasha house, traveling across several states to come home to Nevada for the holiday and the general craziest that exists in a house with two toddlers.

I didn’t even look at the party photos until it was almost spring!!!  Then I thought, who wants to look at a winter party in the Spring?!?

So I waited, ever so, errr…patiently, for winter to come again to share this pretty party with the world.  I hope you enjoy and pardon my tardiness…

My little girls are very different. My oldest is adventurous and fiery. She keeps us on our toes with her hilarious ideas and makes every day fun.

My baby Emma, she has one of the calmest and sweetest little spirits I know.  She is my cuddler.  She loves pretty and dainty and all things girly.

When I started thinking about what would suit my Emma for her all important FIRST birthday party, I knew I wanted something classic and feminine.

I decided that fairy silhouettes would be perfect and since she is my little winter bundle of cuteness, they couldn’t be just ANY old fairies…they had to be SUGAR PLUM FAIRIES!

I wanted to stay away from the traditional red/green colors and opted for mint, a light forest green, bright pink and a soft baby pink color for the palette.

We kept the celebration small, since we were celebrating out of town.  Much to the irritation of my holiday decoration obsessed mother, I banned all “Christmas” decor from the party.

Just because she is born in December doesn’t mean she has to have a Christmas birthday:)

Here is a close-up of the cake…I made a white peppermint mocha cake with cream cheese frosting.  On the outside of the cake I used pink and mint colored rock candy to decorate the cake.

The awesome rock candy came from Mammygram and it was amazingly yummy and smelled sooo good.  I used fairy wings as a cake topper to accent the cake.

We had some amazing peppermint bark.  The white/pink bark was made by Custom Candy Creations

The green mint bark, I made by picking out the mint chocolate chips from the mint chocolate chip bags (yes, I’m a little OCD), spreading them out on a cookie sheet, and baking until they were all melted.  Once they cooled, I broke them into pieces.  I also used the patterned paper (that comes in the printable set) to create paper flowers.  Tutorial coming next week.  These were super easy to make and a nice addition to the table

Here’s my big girl…with no hair!!  I had a bowband for her to wear, but of course anytime I actually got a picture of her…the bow was NOWHERE to be found!

Alas…she’s cute without it!!  I also had matching fairy wings…but they never made them into the pictures either:)Oh the dessert table, we also had marshmallow covered brownies (so they looked like snow), pink rice krispy treats, and pink wafer cookies dipped in white chocolate. We had glitter cookies, pastel mints, and pistachio pudding cups.We also had an assortment of sugar covered marshmallows and cake balls. The adorable fairy wing cake balls came from The Cake Poppery.  The white peppermint and pink cake pops came from Starbucks (seriously…and they were REALLY, REALLY good!!)

I put tulle pieces behind the cupcake toppers to give them a special little pinch of magic and girly fun.

Here is the smash cake and high chair bunting. My baby girl had so much fun digging into the mini white peppermint mocha cake.

For party favors, I made homemade hot white chocolate mix (Recipe coming next week).  I put the mix in little glass jars and laced in pink and green colored sugar to give it a little pizzazz.  I attached the the favor tags to the jars…they were one of my FAVORITE details of the party.

We even had pink hot chocolate to drink…(white hot chocolate with a pinch of red food coloring).  It was perfect with the stripy straws and straw flags.

Here’s my older daughter passing out the favors.  She loved the party, although she never really understood that it wasn’t HER party!  When you are two…its ALWAYS your party!
